Silo Inspection

Silos are commonly used to store a variety of materials, such as agricultural products and industrial materials in granular form.  However, if damage or deterioration forms in the wall panels in your silo, it can weaken its structure, posing serious health and safety risks, leading to contamination and resulting in expensive repairs.

At Franklin Hodge, we offer a silo inspection service that is designed to identify issues early, so remedial work can be completed to prevent the problem from getting worse. With our silo surveys, you can avoid unexpected failures and costly replacements, extending the lifespan of your silo.

The Benefits of Silo Inspection

Here are three key reasons why it’s important to arrange regular silo surveys:

  • Detecting issues early: Regular inspections help identify issues like, damage, deterioration, corrosion and loose fittings before they become more serious. Early detection means early repairs, preventing costly replacements.
  • Improved safety: Routine inspections are also important for the safety of your team, as they reduce the risk of accidents or collapses. A survey means you can address any issues before they turn into potentially dangerous situations.
  • Longer silo lifespan: Regular inspections can extend the lifespan of your silo, giving you a chance to fix any issues before they cause complete structural failure.

Drone Silo Inspections

We use drones to provide high-quality data and images, allowing us to assess the structural integrity of your silo with complete precision.

Using drones means we can easily access hard-to-reach areas, offering detailed inspection surveys without putting anyone at risk. Whilst manual silo inspections can be hazardous, drone surveys are faster, safer, and just as reliable. If there are any signs of damage, loose parts, wall panels or corrosion, we’ll be able to identify these before recommending and providing reliable remedial work.

FAQs

What kind of issues can be detected during a silo inspection?

Our silo inspections can detect, damage, deterioration, corrosion and loose fittings. We can also look for damaged insulation, material build-up and general signs of wear and tear. These inspections ensure any small issues are fixed before they turn into major faults.

How often should a silo inspection be arranged?

At a minimum, we suggest a thorough, yearly inspection. You might need to arrange inspection more often if your tank is exposed to tough environmental conditions, or if it stores corrosive materials. In between professional inspections, you should also give your silo a good once over now and then, looking for any early signs of problems.

What happens if we find damage in a wall panel in the inspection?

If we see any damage during the inspection, we can suggest a plan for remedial action. This might include repairs, cleaning or reinforcement work. Early repairs will fix minor issues before they turn into major ones, extending the lifespan of your silo and preventing the need for costly repairs/replacements.

Can you offer the remedial work?

Yes, we can complete any remedial work needed to fix wall panels, corrosion and weaknesses. Often, we can complete remedial work without causing extensive business disruption.
