FAQs

Why are water tanks cylindrical?

Compared with other shapes, a cylindrical water storage tank offers the greatest stress resistance. The cylindrical shape offers the lowest mechanical stress and the best stability. Plus, due to the ‘no corner effect’, the flow of water is more uniform.

Cylindrical tanks are also easier to maintain and install, which can reduce overall costs.

Are there any disadvantages of cylindrical water storage tanks?

The most obvious disadvantage is that a cylindrical tank does not make the best use of space when installed indoors. If the tank is in a square/rectangular room, much of the space around the perimeter of the tank will be wasted.

Another potential drawback is that due to the round shape, water can only circulate in a round motion. This means sediment/debris can get stuck in the middle of the tank.
